Diary for Sunday, July 19th
We’re back! And on a new blogging platform. I haven’t blogged since last year… It’s a good reminder of how hard it can be to regain good habits after you drop them for a few weeks. The old blog stack was very manual, and that added a lot of friction as well. We’re on Hugo now, let’s hope that makes life a little easier.
I’ve been alright. If you make your hobby your job, you will certainly some day make it your unemployment, and I can’t say that hasn’t been fatiguing. It’s been hard to maintain my passion and motivation for technology when everything has been so thoroughly steeped in “how can this help me find a job?”. At least I know I’m not the only one, and that gives me some peace.
The last of the pigeons nesting at our windowsill has flown out, now. I’ll miss them! I’ve watched the little guy on the left since he was still in the egg. It’s nice to live close to animals.
A little bit at a time, that is my mantra right now. Back to the gym again, programming, writing the blog, studying French… A little bit at a time. Always today.
Still tired.
Sunday evenings migraine justifies the weekend’s fatigue. At least when I get migraines they are somewhat mild, especially as far as pain is concerned. More than anything, I get very sensitive to light and sound, but my bedroom can darken very well and I have earbuds.
Rendering that little ❦ up there is as simple as creating and styling a Hugo shortcode. That’s a benefit of the new tech stack. I will neither confirm nor deny spending an inordinate amount of time trying to get the actual invocation to render cleanly through some combination of verbatim blocks and zero width spaces before giving up.

Figure 1: It looks like this.
The biggest justification of the new tech stack is that it makes it much easier to add features like an automatically updating RSS feed, tagged and searchable articles and similar navigation features, and so on.
Soon I want to look into the whole “IndieWeb” phenomenon… Seems to be in the spirit of this website, at least.
I started reading Wake Up To Your Life by Ken McLeod. Little commentary so far. Wondering if I should index my dharma book library somewhere, as it has surely hit double digits by now.
